The Foundation... Breeding
All of the dogs are tested for genetic disorders using the latest technologies and DNA testing/profiling.
OFA certification is done on each dog for: Hips/Elbows (after 24 months) Heart (via Doppler Echo.) Thyroid Patella Luxation Legg/Calve/Perthes Globoid Cell Leukodystrophy Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency CERF
Dogs that are Reported as having Fair Hips are not Bred. Only dogs with Good or Excellent ratings are bred and only Good to Excellent or Excellent to Excellent.
Dogs that are bred are of sound temperment and have passed both the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test and are certified Therapy Dogs.
All of the dogs have up to date CERF exams. These are maintained even in dogs that are no longer being bred.
Females are bred only after the age of 2 years, and usually not until they are in their 3rd year. The number of times a female is bred is limited. When they are no longer being used for breeding they are not placed into "pet" homes as they are part of the family they might go on to other activities. (Usually obedience, flyball, earthdog, visiting as a therapy dogs or other activities.)
Since the number of times a female might be bred is limited, you can imagine how careful mates are chosen and a lot planning goes into each litter. When females are bred to stud dogs owned by others the same standards of temperment and health are expected.
In a typical year, only a single litter will be produced.
This is one reason why new families, for puppies/dogs, are screened in such depth.
ALL POTENTIAL PUPPY ADOPTEES ARE REQUIRED TO FILL OUT AN APPLICATION TO ADOPT and MUST AGREE TO A HOME EVALUATION CLOSE TO THE TIME A PUPPY IS AVAILABLE.
There is a waiting list, as many breeders have. Expect to wait at least a year or two, as you must with all things of quality. Puppies are placed by personalty, then by order of request and availability.
